Virginia STAR Annual Meeting 2017

Since 2010, over 73 schools in 43 school districts have refurbished over 11,000 computers all of which have been donated to schools, community centers, and families. With the Virginia STAR program, over 4,000 students have learned valuable IT skills in hardware, software, and problem solving. Charlie Bowman and Bryan Farmer took two of Caroline’s Virginia STAR / Makerspace Club students to the annual Virginia STAR meeting in the General Assembly Building in Richmond. Our group was able to briefly meet delegates and senators for coffee and to discuss how we have benefited from the Virginia STAR program, in hopes of continued program funding. Afterwards, the group moved to the Omni Hotel for a working lunch and to meet Keyanna Conner, State Director, Office of US Senator Mark Warner. One of our students was awarded a tablet computer.

2016-2017 Club Activities

Welcome to the 2016-2017 school year!

The VA STAR/Makerspace program is in full swing now, and we have a great group of students with us this year!!  the VA STAR program gave us several laptops and desktops and the students are working hard to get all of them ready for donation to the community.  We have also order parts for a powerful computer that the students will assemble.  We will use this computer to create projects for our 3D printer, and several other projects we are talking about.

Students first Print

The students have worked with the 3-d printer to create their first print. They wanted to print a cupcake and here we have it. They are looking forward to see if they can create and design their own print in the future.
